Figuring the House Advantage in Roulette

The most important factor in online casino gambling is the house advantage. The house advantage is basically the ratio of the average loss to the size of the bet. It basically tells you the player’s chances of winning. In roulette the players are betting on the outcome of the spin of the wheel. Roulette is a bingo game of chance. Every spin of the wheel is a random event with an independent outcome. There is no method of predicting the outcome.

Knowledge of the house advantage is important for the internet bingo player to know when he is placing bets.  In roulette, the house advantage is simple to compute and depends on the number of zeros on the roulette wheel. The European roulette wheel has thirty-seven slots with thirty-six numbers and a zero. Every spin of the wheel results in a number landing in a slot.  The house advantage is an easy computation.  (35 – 36)/37 x 100 = -2.7%.  This is the house advantage in European roulette.  The American version of the game has thirty-eight slots, with thirty-six numbers and a zero and a double zero lot.  The computation of the house advantage is (35 – 37)/38 x 100 = -5.26%.

Since the house advantage is defined as the ratio of average loss to the size of the bet, which version of roulette do you want to be betting in? Which version will have more average losses due to the existence of both a zero and a double zero slot?
