Razz is a form of Seven Card Stud where the lowest five card poker hand is the winner. This is not a game of high and low. Card suits are not relevant in the determination of the low hand which means there are no such things as straights or flushes.  Aces count as low card.  The game begins by an ante determined by the house rules. These rules also determine the betting limits.

The dealer deals two cards face-down to each player and one card face-up.  The lowest face-up card is designated as the “bring in.” and the player is required to bet either half a small bet or a full small bet.  A tie for the “bring in” card is broken by order of suits. The ordering, from highest to lowest, is spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.  Clubs would represent the lowest card in case of a tie, followed then by diamonds and so on.

After the betting, the game proceeds with the dealing of the “Fourth Street” card which is face-up.  The player with the lowest face up hand either checks or bets.  All bets are confined to small bets. At the conclusion of the betting, the “Fifth Street” card is dealt face up, and again, the player with the lowest face-up hand either checks or bets.  Bets are now in terms of big bets until the conclusion of the game.  The process is again repeated for the “Sixth Card” and round of betting.  Then the dealer deals the seventh and final card face-down to each of the active players.  The final round of betting begins with the player who has the lowest face-up poker hand.  Players then reveal their hands in the appropriate order.  The winner is the player with the lowest five card hand.
